Guitar Lessons
Private lessons are taught in the Potting Shed, our purpose built music room at our home in Benhall, Cheltenham.
Most lessons last for 30 minutes but longer lessons are sometimes possible if requested if time is available, as are shorter sessions for younger beginners. Most pupils come along weekly, but a few chose to come fortnightly. I tend to work during school term times but do offer additional lessons during some of the school holidays if there is demand.
Pupils can learn to play on different types of guitar – acoustic, electric or classical are all fine. Pupils can chose to learn to play a number different styles. I tailor the lessons to suit the needs and interests of each pupil. For instance, some choose to study formal classical guitar, some work on acoustic guitar grades, some work on electric guitar using rock school or other similar tutor books while others work on chords learning to play songs from a wide range of styles. I try to use music that the student enjoys where possible. Some pupils also choose to record their music.
Although I don’t push pupils towards grades, I am happy to help students prepare to take formal grade exams if they wish to. I particularly enjoy working on the Registry of Guitar Tutors acoustic guitar grades, but am happy to work on any grade scheme available.
I am a qualified teacher and have a full CRB/DBS certificate and liability insurance. I have been teaching guitar full time for ten years. Previously, I worked in a primary school as a class teacher for around ten years before deciding to combine my passion for music and sound with my love of teaching to teach music full time. Initially I worked for Gloucestershire Music and went freelance a few years ago.
My aim is to make playing music enjoyable and fun. When it is fun, playing an instrument can bring a lifetime’s worth of pleasure fulfilment.
